My wife and I headed down to southern Indiana this weekend to be with my dad’s family for their Christmas gathering, intending to stay down here through Christmas to spend time with her family, my mom’s family, and to see our friends down in Evansville. We got a call this morning from our landlord saying that the apartment building in which we lived had caught fire and was a total loss.
We don’t know yet if we’ll be able to get in and see if any of our stuff can be salvaged or not, we are going back up Monday to see what’s up. We didn’t have insurance, and really don’t know what awaits us when we go. It’s possible that what we brought with us will be what we have left.
Your prayers and good thoughts would be most appreciated in this time. As soon as we have more information about what we need to do and what our needs are, I’ll be posting it here. Thanks for everything, and I’ll keep you all updated. Thank God that everyone got out of the building ok, the only casualty was our downstairs neighbor’s dog – which is sad, but given that it happened at 3 in the morning it could have been much worse. We had tried for weeks to get a sitter for our cats, to watch and feed them, but were unable so we had to bring them with us. Needless to say, we are not complaining about that now.
Peace be with you.
Edited to add: Anyone who is willing and able to help out financially, we now have a PayPal account set up to receive donations. No amount is too small, remember that if 100 people give $1 it’s the same as one person giving $100. Most of all, we’re glad to know that so many of you have been willing to help and support us in this difficult time. Most of all, we covet your prayers.

I’m so sorry to hear that, Jason! Let me know if there’s anything I can do!
Hey, bub. I’m posting the info everywhere. We’ll set things right. Given that we live hours apart and I don’t have *that* much $, I’m really reaching for ways to help out. Just lemme know. Should be easy since I’m sitting next to you right now. :-p
I was wondering about the cats. I’m glad you have them with you. We’re praying with and for you.
I’m so glad that you, G, your cats and all your neighbors are okay. And very sad about the doggie! Let me know if there’s anything I can do from here or if anyone I know can help, I love you guys and A does, too.
Oh my…just read about this on Twitter and came to your site. Thank God you and kitties are alive. Stuff can be replaced. I’m sure your Twitter-based community will help. Let us know what you need.
Wow, Jason, what a shock! We will be praying for you and gretchen. I’m so sorry to hear about such a loss, but I know that the Lord will be with you both in the coming weeks. I will continue to pray for ya’ll.
Love ya’ll,
Lacy Webb
so glad you are all safe!
My prayers are with you. This is awful but thanks be to God you’re alright.
BTW, since I’m a resident of southern Indiana, where does your family live?
I am so sorry for your loss. I’ll be praying that God will provide for you quickly and overwhelmingly.
Thanks so much everyone. I’ll continue posting updates on the blog.
Richard, right now we’re in Ripley County with my dad’s side of the family, but most of them are in or around Petersburg.
I second what Noelle said. If there’s anything we can do, we will do our utmost to help! If there’s any extra money after my paycheck on Wednesday, I will try to send some along to you guys. I’m also very glad the kitties are safe and it was a sheer blessing that you took them with you. Peace be with you all always.
Praying for you and yours in the aftermath of this calamity; wish we were closer… will consider how we might help.
I am so sorry to hear about this tragedy. I do not know you but you and I are Twitter friends. Please know that I am in prayer for you and your wife during these days. You know to whom to turn for strength and I will pray for God to give you wisdom. May God richly bless you during these days.
You are in my prayers. Be well.
We’ll certainly by praying for you … please don’t hesitate to ask if we might be of help.
Jason, I have a few friends in South Bend who are post-seminary and now getting sociology degrees. I let them know about your predicament and appealed to them to send any religion texts they aren’t in need of to you. I’ll let you know when I hear more. Peace
