Fire and uncertainty

My wife and I headed down to southern Indiana this weekend to be with my dad’s family for their Christmas gathering, intending to stay down here through Christmas to spend time with her family, my mom’s family, and to see our friends down in Evansville. We got a call this morning from our landlord saying that the apartment building in which we lived had caught fire and was a total loss.

We don’t know yet if we’ll be able to get in and see if any of our stuff can be salvaged or not, we are going back up Monday to see what’s up. We didn’t have insurance, and really don’t know what awaits us when we go. It’s possible that what we brought with us will be what we have left.

Your prayers and good thoughts would be most appreciated in this time. As soon as we have more information about what we need to do and what our needs are, I’ll be posting it here. Thanks for everything, and I’ll keep you all updated. Thank God that everyone got out of the building ok, the only casualty was our downstairs neighbor’s dog – which is sad, but given that it happened at 3 in the morning it could have been much worse. We had tried for weeks to get a sitter for our cats, to watch and feed them, but were unable so we had to bring them with us. Needless to say, we are not complaining about that now.

Peace be with you.

Edited to add: Anyone who is willing and able to help out financially, we now have a PayPal account set up to receive donations. No amount is too small, remember that if 100 people give $1 it’s the same as one person giving $100. Most of all, we’re glad to know that so many of you have been willing to help and support us in this difficult time. Most of all, we covet your prayers.
